A Message from Dr. Grunewald

February 17, 2025

Edmond Families,

This year’s Oklahoma weather is proving to be as unpredictable and challenging as ever. In order to give our families and staff members as much notice as possible, we are making the decision now that tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18th, will be a remote learning day for all EPS schools. Based on the forecasts for the remainder of the week, we are anticipating the possibility of additional days of either remote learning or weather closure days.

I want everyone to know that the decision to switch to remote learning or to cancel school is not taken lightly. I understand and agree that the best place for our students to learn is in the classroom with their amazing EPS teachers. However, there are times when I have to make these difficult decisions to keep our students and staff members safe. None of the available options equal the in-person day learning day that had to be replaced.

To give us some flexibility in our schedules and looking at this week’s full forecast, we have made the decision to add an additional 5 minutes to each school day when we return to in-person learning. This is in addition to the 5 minutes we had already communicated. This means there will now be 10 additional instructional minutes for each school day through the end of the year. This is to try to recover the highest quality instructional time possible

These are the updated schedules which will be in effect when we return to in-person learning.

  • Middle School: 7:35am - 2:25pm

  • High School: 8:10am - 3pm

  • Early Elementary: 8:40am - 3:30pm

    • Chisholm, Clegern, Ida Freeman, Northern Hills, Russell Dougherty, Sunset, Washington Irving, West Field

  • Late Elementary: 9:10am - 4pm

    • Angie Debo, Centennial, Charles Haskell, Cross Timbers, Frontier, Heritage, John Ross, Orvis Risner, Redbud, Scissortail, Will Rogers

We realize any changes to the school schedule cause disruption and inconvenience, but we are trying to keep from having to add days to the end of the school year. I do want to reinforce that since it is still mid-February, and we have more winter and severe weather season ahead of us, it is very likely that we would need to add additional days to the calendar in May if additional closures are necessary.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership,

Dr. Angela Grunewald
