Leadership Development Requirements

Leadership Development Requirement (LDR) activities are a critical component of any successful AFJROTC unit. Known previously as “co-curricular”, LDR activities are AFJROTC-sponsored and school-approved teams and/or committees of cadets that normally operate outside classroom hours. However, some LDR activities may be incorporated into regular classroom instruction.

The Edmond AFJROTC Group participates in a variety of LDR activities.  These activities develop the ideas presented as a part of the AFJROTC curriculum. The activities are open to any cadet of the OK-81st, the structure will be determined by the number of Cadets participating, and all members are expected to maintain good academic standing, strict military bearing, and have no discipline problems. The various activities available are listed below:

Blue Knights

Our armed competitive drill team.  Members of this team consist of 2nd-4th year cadets who have been selected by the Blue Knights Commander and his/her staff.   Upon selection, these members are then rigorously trained in the precision movements required to compete in various drill meets.  They are also trained in proper armed regulation drill while carrying the Daisy 1903 drill rifle.  See them in action during the 2021 Awards Ceremony

Falcons

Our unarmed competitive drill team.  Falcons members consist of 2nd-4th year cadets who have been selected by the Falcons Commander and his/her staff.  Members of this team have shown they have the skill required to perform at the competitive level.  They can compete in the Exhibition, Regulation, and Inspection categories at various drill meets.

Competition Color Guard

The Comp Color Guard performs intricate drill and ceremonies involving the presentation of Colors at area drill meets.  Cadets chosen for this team have shown they excel at drill and ceremonies.

Honor Guard/Saber Team

The OK-81st Honor Guard performs at various school activities such as football and basketball games, assemblies, EPS District-wide events, numerous Veteran’s Day events, and several highly visible state and community functions.  Only select members, including freshmen, will serve on the most visible OK-81 team. The Saber Team is comprised of primarily 2nd-4th year cadets though 1st-year cadets may be selected. They are devoted to precision drill and ceremonies while armed with Sabers.

PT Team

The OK-81st Physical Training Team promotes physical fitness, esprit de corps, and teamwork.  They provide cadets with a program focused on physical development at a competitive level.   Our PT Team competes at various events including the Raider Challenge and the OU ROTC Sooner Strong 5K.

The Stellar X team is comprised of cadets who have a strong interest in cosmic systems and spacecraft. Cadets will compete in the StellarXplorers competition, build on skills in STEM, and learn how space systems affect our daily lives. These cadets will compete in the Junior Leadership Academic Bowl of questions that relate to JROTC and begins in mid-November.
